It’s NOT just about quantity👨‍🏫!

Greetings!  We sure hope this blog post finds you in amazing health with your Medicare insurance coverage 🏥 working properly😄.

Email Gray, Gray@TheBig65.com or book a time on my calendar if you are having issues with your Medicare plans or you’d like to shop your coverage.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Gettin’ old ain’t for sissies👴😖😂!

After more than 20 years as a Medicare Insurance Broker, my perspective on aging has changed.

It’s not just about quantity…

Scary looking mask found in a museum.

It’s more about quality.  Of course we all want to live a long life, but what’s the point if the years aren’t filled with joy, purpose, and good health?

Instead of just counting the years, let’s focus on making each year count.

Prioritize Connection:

  • Spend time with family and friends.
  • Join community groups or clubs that align with your interests.
  • Reach out to old friends or make new ones.

We just reconnected with two of our former exchange students and their family in Puebla, Mexico. It was so delightful to catch up on their adventures. These two boys are growing up!

A group of people posing for a photograph.

Move Daily:

  • Incorporate enjoyable activities like walking, swimming, or gardening.
  • Try yoga or stretching to keep your body flexible and strong.
  • Even light exercise can boost your mood and energy.

One of the reasons we enjoy travel is that everyday, we get in a lot of steps. Quantz got to practice her vertical leap just after this picture was taken when she realized this crocodile on the table was still alive!

Nourish Your Body:

  • Focus on whole foods: fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
  • Stay hydrated and limit processed foods and sugars.
  • Enjoy occasional treats—balance is key!

I’m happy to report Dry January ended on February 1st. When you visit your local Mexican restaurant, ask them if they serve Micheladas, beer, clamato juice, Worcestershire, and other ingredients. It’s delicious.

As my Dad used to say, “Everything in moderation, even moderation😂.”

Karl holding a glass in each hand and sipping through a straw in each glass.

Find Your Purpose:

  • Volunteer or mentor others—sharing your wisdom can be fulfilling.
  • Take up hobbies that bring you joy and a sense of accomplishment.
  • Set small, achievable goals that give you something to look forward to.

My purpose is to help as many people as I can with their Medicare coverage and to see as much of the world as we can while we are still healthy enough to enjoy it.

You NEVER know when that will change, right? Make the most of each day.

Our Air Force son is now based in Sicily and he’s started skiing again. That smoking volcano behind him is Mount Aetna. Let’s hope it doesn’t blow😳😨!

Remember, it’s not just about adding years to your life, but life to your years. Let’s make every moment count❤️!

Keep squeezing the juice out of life and look for ways to help others!

🚨Stay One Step Ahead: The Simple Checkup Could Save Your Life🛟!

Greetings!

We sure hope this blog post finds you in great spirits with your Medicare insurance coverage 🏥 working well😄.

This week, three different clients were ALMOST DUPED😱 by shady, illegal🚫 call centers📞. Beware! If anyone promises you the moon🌙…

Email Gray, Gray@TheBig65.com or book a time on my calendar. Let us know what you’re thinking, we’ll  review the plans and help you avoid making an irreversible mistake😌.

Q and I have been exploring the Mayan ruins in southern Mexico and it sure has been an adventure. This area has been on our bucket list forever and we feel so grateful to be healthy enough to be able to still have these adventures.

As we age, our health becomes even more important for the quality of our lives. We are always only one step away from disaster🚨⚠️👀  so…  staying proactive is key.

The simplest yet most effective ways to stay ahead of potential health issues is by making the most of your Medicare Annual Wellness Visit.

This free appointment helps catch small problems before they turn into major concerns, ensuring you stay strong, independent, and active. Don’t skip it even if you feel good!

Karl feeding a brown dog.

Here’s how to prepare for your next visit:

Review Your Medical History – Note any past illnesses, surgeries, and hospitalizations.

Gather all your medications and bring them to the appointment to confirm you still need to be taking them. Many doctors won’t remove unnecessary meds unless prodded.

Check Your Vaccinations – Ensure you’re up to date on flu shots, pneumonia, shingles, and other vaccinations. Remember, if you snooze, you lose🤣!

Prepare Health Concerns – Write down any symptoms, pain, or issues you’ve noticed.

Know Your Family History – Update any changes in your family’s medical history.

Assess Your Lifestyle – Be ready to discuss diet, exercise, sleep, and mental health.

Don’t go alone!  Bring a family member and record the appointment (with permission) so that you can review everything later. (By the way, that’s Guatemala on the left and Mexico on the right!)

During the Visit:

Blood Pressure & Vitals Check – Ensure everything is within a healthy range.

Cognitive Screening – Expect a short memory test to check for early signs of dementia.

Fall Risk & Mobility Assessment – Discuss balance issues and fall prevention strategies. (Don’t worry, I was extra careful walking!)

Karl walking down very steep historic stairs.

Hearing & Vision Review – Talk about any changes in sight or hearing.

Depression & Mental Health Screening – Be open about stress, anxiety, or mood changes.

Preventive Screenings & Tests – Your provider may recommend cancer screenings, bone density tests, or cholesterol checks. Ask about your progress!

After the Visit:

Follow Up on Any Recommendations – Schedule necessary tests or specialist visits.

Review Your Personalized Prevention Plan – Your doctor should give you a wellness roadmap.

Update Your Personal Health Record – Keep track of changes and set reminders for future visits.

This checklist ensures clients maximize their free Medicare Annual Wellness Visit. Would you like a printable PDF version to share? Email Gray, Gray@TheBig65.com and he’ll be happy to share it. He won’t leave you in the dark🦇🔦!

Special thanks to Lisa for sharing this picture of Guthrie. Guthrie brings joy to everyone around him as a therapy dog in hospitals, cancer centers, and in hospice.

Keep up the great work Guthrie💖.

Don’t worry Plato, you can’t be replaced ☺️!  There are never enough dogs in our lives!
