Happy Halloween ๐ป … may this blog find you being a very good boy๐ถ๐พ, with your Medicare insurance coverage not dogging๐๐ you in any way.
We’re now in week three of the Annual Election Period ๐ณ๏ธ๐ . If your coverage is working, give thanks!
Longtime readers of the newsletter know I’m a sucker for big dogs. Just being around such a magnificent beast is good for the soul. โค๏ธ
The owner of this rascal gave me high props. She said her big boy never lets people get close, but he came right up to me and we became best friends. ๐ค
The beauty of owning a dog is that pets force you to get outside every day๐, unless you cheat the system by hiring a professional dog walker๐ถ๐.
A recent article suggests that staying healthy isn’t just about exercise quantity, but more about how we think of exercise๐ค.
Now before you head out for tacos ๐ฎ and cervezas ๐บ, hear me out ๐ฃ๏ธ.
Apparently there is a connection between our mindset regarding physical activity and our health. ๐ง ๐ช
Studies have shown that people who think of exercise as fun, instead of a duty, are more likely to build it into their lives. ๐
But that doesn’t mean you need to become a professional wrestler. ๐คผ
Surprisingly, simply changing your perception of how active you are can influence mental well-being and certain markers of physical health. ๐ฑ
It’s the mind-body connection and positive beliefs that can spark new growth. My father would have been 101 this week. I wish I could have made him exercise more. ๐
The real takeaway is that exercise doesn’t have to mean the gym, running, or even breaking an intense sweat. ๐ฆ
Find some friends like Puya and May and jump on a bike. ๐ด Puya told me later that if he hadn’t promised to join, he wouldn’t have done it. Social commitment can increase the likelihood of building a new habit. It could be dancing, gardening, or walking. ๐๐ป๐ถ
The goal is not to think of exercise as something you have to do.
Instead, give thanks and start appreciating that exercise is something you are still able to do. ๐
Steve and Jo seem to never stop moving. Their goal is to visit every National Park in the US. They just had a blast visiting Teddy Roosevelt’s Presidential Library in North Dakota. Keep going, guys! ๐๏ธ๐
My favorite motivational quote of all time comes from James Clear:
“We don’t rise to the level of our aspirations, we fall to the level of our systems.” ๐ก
So don’t be like Penny’s dog, who sure loves to sleep. ๐ด Before you go to bed, put out your walking shoes so you are ready to go tomorrow. ๐ Call a friend and make a play date, or check out what’s available at your local Senior Center. ๐ค
Even if we do live to be one hundred, life goes by in a blink. Show up every day. Stay curious, help others, laugh as much as you can, and keep going. ๐ฏ๐
Keep squeezing the juice out of life! ๐๐
If family or friends need help… referrals are the lifeblood of my business.
