Hola … May this blogย find you in spooktacular ๐ spirits, with your Medicare insurance protecting you from the bad hombres! ๐ป๐ฆ
We’re now in week two of the Annual Election Period ๐ณ๏ธ๐ .
๐ง If youโd like us to review your coverage for 2027, please start by emailing Gray at Gray@TheBig65.com. He’ll get the process started. ๐ The Part D drug plans no longer work with brokers ๐, so we can’t sign you up. But if you’re patient, we promise to make recommendations and show you how to do it. ๐๐
If your Medicare Advantage plan is going away ๐ค ๐ ๐ข, go ahead andย book a time on my calendar. We promise to make sure all clients get the help they need. ๐ค
๐ Remember that you can change Medicare supplements ANY month of the year. Some states have the birthday rule ๐. If you get a rate increase ๐ and want to shop plans, don’t be afraid to reach out. ๐
๐ฌ What’s my favorite part of the Annual Election Period? I get to catch up with so many interesting clients all over the country ๐บ๏ธ.
Sometimes the conversations are hard: plans going away, benefits being cut โ๏ธ, costs going up ๐ธ, and sometimes chronic health issues getting worse. ๐
๐ The flip side is that we also see clients who are healthier and sharper than when they first started Medicare.
Those are the conversations that inspire me and make me curious. ๐ค๐ก
These people tend to share habits that seem to slow down aging: exercise ๐, social engagement ๐ฏ, volunteering ๐, and learning new things ๐.
What’s the secret that keeps us from turning into aging zombies? Is it genetics ๐งฌ, habits ๐, or luck ๐? I’m guessing it’s a combination of all three.
๐ข We’re bombarded with data and miracle cures, but the message coming through the noise seems to be that genetics are not destiny. ๐
๐ฐ A recent article in the Times shows how much influence lifestyle can have on our brain health, and it is great news in the battle against cognitive decline. ๐ช
๐งฌ Having the gene variant APOE4 raises the risk of developing Alzheimer’s. That’s genetics.
โจ The important message from the article is that having this gene doesn’t mean you will necessarily develop the disease.
๐ There’s growing evidence that lifestyle choices may reduce the risk of dementia, even for people at higher genetic risk.
๐ซ๐ Forget the exotic treatments and the overemphasis on supplements.
โ According to the article, you can lower your risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia by doing things most of us already know we should be doing:
๐ถ Move your body. Regular exercise, whether walking ๐ถโโ๏ธ, cycling ๐ด, swimming ๐, or yoga ๐ง, is associated with better brain health.
๐ฅ Eat well. A Mediterranean-style diet rich in vegetables ๐ฅฆ, fruits ๐, nuts ๐ฅ, olive oil ๐ซ, and fish ๐ may help protect cognitive function.
โค๏ธ Take care of your heart. High blood pressure, diabetes, and unhealthy cholesterol levels can affect your brain as well as your heart. ๐ฉบ
๐ Address hearing loss. Untreated hearing problems are linked to a higher risk of dementia, and improving your hearing may offer important benefits. ๐ฆป
๐ค Stay connected. Friendships โ, conversations ๐ฌ, learning ๐, and social engagement give our brains reasons to stay active.
โณ None of these steps guarantees we’ll avoid cognitive loss. But if we can do them, even modestly, there’s compelling evidence that we can slow down the clock โฐ and enjoy life more. ๐
๐ As we are continually bombarded by bad news, articles like this give me hope that we have more influence than we once believed.ย ๐
So this weekend, find a way to reach out ๐ฒ, take a few more steps ๐, and laugh at the world ๐. Look for a way to help others ๐ค, and you’ll feel better too. ๐
Keep squeezing the juice out of life! ๐๐
