Let’s finish the year strong!

Holiday Greetings🎅 …

Santa hopes you’ve been a good 😇, and that your Medicare coverage keeps on giving🎁.

If you switched any medical, drug, or dental plans, keep an eye 👀 out for the new cards. Call the carrier or reach out to my colleague Gray, Gray@TheBig65.com, if you need help.

We are available to help through the 31st. If it’s complex or you still need coverage, book a time on my calendar.

Our Malagasi exchange student Miti just finished her first semester final exams. You can tell from her smile she is happy to have that behind her. Remember the joy you felt as a kid when winter vacay rolled around?

Major props to our neighbor for putting this Xmas lamp in the window😂👍!

I’m sending Xmas Honey 🍯🐝 to the first three readers who name this 1983 Christmas TV special that featured this lamp (new winners only).

Plato is very happy the Medicare Annual Election Period has finished. We are back on regular walking routines and he is glad for the attention.

Q and Miti continue to spoil Plato, he even has his own advent calendar. Of course we love our children, but we really love our animals, right?

Speaking of noble pet sitters, neighbor Sally took care of her daughter’s 15 year old Papillon, (the dog, not the butterfly). The only way she could calm down Furball when I visited was putting the little rascal in her travel bag.  “The things we do for love!”

Before the year ends, are you completing your wellness checks to maintain long term health?

Even if your plan does not include hearing benefits👂, there are many ways to get $0 copay hearing tests:

  • Senior Centers often offer free hearing screenings
  • Costco and Sam’s Clubs allow you to book free appointments
  • Check free online hearing tests like Audibel

Quantz’s hearing is much better than mine. She claims I suffer from “selective hearing loss😉,” oh well.

Hearing well isn’t just about sound—it’s about staying connected, confident, and engaged in everyday life.

Research shows that retirees who took care of their hearing had better long-term brain health, while untreated hearing loss was linked to a higher risk of dementia.

I’ve had hearing loss for going on two decades, so regular hearing checks are paramount. I recently purchased the transcription glasses for noisy environments (like restaurants and Xmas parties). They transcribe the words as people speak right onto the glasses. When overseas, they can be programmed to translate up to 200 different languages.

Quantz is right, they are ugly as sin🤓, but I choose function over form. I’ll let you know if they work🤞!

End of the year check ups should also include the eyes. Having a yearly baseline for eye health can help manage more severe conditions like glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration.

The good news…another clean bill of health for my eyes.

For all heavy screen users (phones, computers, ipads), remember this 👓 Quick wellness tip:

👀 Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds—the simple 20-20-20 rule helps reduce eye strain and fatigue.

A computer monitor.

Simple habits over a long period of time create wellness.

But the most important thing you can do this holiday season? Spend time with the people love! Human connection (and walking) are the two greatest prescriptions available.

Call, visit, connect. Perform random acts of kindness. Talk to the people you love, even your smart ass older brother!

Karl's older brother Rob.

My brother Rob and his wife Nancy added Teddy (a rescue from the California fires) to the family this year. Teddy has made them healthier and happier.

Produce more than you consume. Find ways to help others. The more we focus on living, the less time we have for complaining. Or as I heard today:

“Instead of getting furious, try getting curious!” Happy Holidays to you and your tribe.

Keep asking,  “What’s the next big thing?”

If family or friends need help… referrals are the lifeblood of my business.
